Hobbies and things that make you go hmmmmmmm ...

The rest of this web page will provide links that reflect my current hobbies and interests. In no particular order, they include soccer, watching motor sport (rallying and Formula 1), and dance. Other stuff includes outdoor hikes and walks, watching good movies and going to musicals or plays, international travel, hanging out with good friends and family, or just chillin' out at a restaurant or at home. Primetime TV is kinda boring; I usually watch Discovery Channel, PBS, BBC and some sports

A short while ago, after doing Gold Level in Latin, I decided to stop competing in ballroom. However, I still enjoy dance, and do tap and jazz dance (I am a member of the FUSION dance team in Baltimore, as well as a member of the UMBC Ballroom Formation team.)

My newest hobby is .. playing with my 4 month old kitten, Lego ! A friend of mine knew of a litter that was being given away, and I picked him up in mid February 2003. He is a lot of fun, very naughty, very energetic and very loyal! Makes going home a nice adventure, as he sometimes jumps out to greet me from his latest hiding spot!

One rewarding aspect about being a research scientist, is that is gives me an opportunity to participate in conferences both in the United States, and internationally. Especially if I go overseas, I usually take a few days off to do some sightseeing. So far I have visited England, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy (and technically the Vatican City), Greece, India and China. Actually, I've been to Italy and Portugal a number of times.

Other countries I've been to include Kenya (where I was born in the capital, Nairobi and resided till I finished high school ... I've also visited Tanzania when very young), Goa (a former Portuguese colony, now a state in India, where my parents are originally from and have now retired back to ... I often go there to visit them) and Canada (Ottawa and Toronto).

As far as travelling in the United States, I've pretty much gone all the way up and down the East Coast, from Freeport, Maine to Key West, Florida (so I skipped one or two of the southern states). MidWest travel includes Ohio to Minnesota. Other than that, I've been to New Mexico and Silicon Valley/ Bay Area in California.

For my undergraduate studies, I attended the College of Wooster in Ohio, where I obtained a B.A. in Math/Physics. I spent one college summer working as a physics summer intern at Ohio University in Athens, OH where I worked on nonlinear dynamics and chaos. Another college summer was spent as a NSF REU physics intern, at the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR, from which my best memories are of hiking amidst the awesome scenery. After that, I moved to the College Park area of Maryland (10 miles from Washington DC) and now have moved close to Baltimore MD.
